A European-style hotel in Washington's embassy district Five blocks from the White House, the Madison offers a stately style inspired by James and Dolley Madison's Federalist era. Guestrooms include antique reproductions, 400-thread count Egyptian cotton sheets, and marble bathrooms. President and Mrs. Kennedy presided over the hotel's opening in 1963, and the Madison has hosted every U.S. president since. The Madison celebrated its grand re-opening in September 2003 after the completion of a 40-million dollar restoration.
